The Messenger Review

I finally finished reading my first Bethany House book, The Messenger, by Siri Mitchell. It took me a couple chapters to get into it, but I really enjoyed it once I got going. I felt awful for Hannah, the oppression of her faith seemed daunting. I also was amazed by her courage to do what she truly felt was right. We're currently discussing ethical issues in our bible class, and I can't imagine the internal tug of war Hannah must have had. I don't know what I would have done or would do her that situation.
On the other hand, lying was second nature to Jeremiah. He was her polar opposite. Their bond, though strange, was part of the reason I couldn't put this book down, wanting to know where they ended up. Hannah was an excellent heroine. I really fell in love with her. This book was a good read, and I recommend it not only for the story, but also the issues Hannah and Jeremiah dealt with.
